Description:

This full-day expedition takes you to the summit of the perfectly conical, snow capped Volcano Osorno.  From this high vantage point, you will be treated to a magnificent, 360-degree view of the surrounding area, including volcanoes Calbuco, Tronador, Puntiagudo, and Casablanca, as well as lakes Todos Los Santos, Llanquihue, Puyehue, and Rupanco.  The journey begins at 5:00 am from Puerto Varas with an hour drive up to the mountain shelter, La Burbuja, which is our departure site.  The first segment of our climb takes us up a volcanic ash slope to El Enlace, where the glacier begins at 2,100 meters.  Here, we outfit ourselves with all the necessary equipment for ice climbing (crampons, harness, ice axe).  After roping up with our guide, we trek up the glacier, and eventually up to the summit.  We are able to admire the outstanding view as we enjoy a delicious lunch at the summit.  The descent to the shelter takes approximately 3 hours.
