Description:
We leave from Puerto Montt, using the beginning of the Austral road. At the Chaicas River we turn to left towards the Andes. On the way, the visitor is stunned by the beautiful countryside, and the first glimpses of the volcanoes especially Volcano Calbuco. At Villa Correntoso, we take the road to the Reserve National LLanquihue. This park secures the preservation of the evergreen forest, where we can see almost all the species including our famous longevity red wood Alerce some species reach 4,000 years old, also we can see beech trees at this level, on a volcanic soil foundation. This trail allows the visitor to have a view of the Calbuco volcano almost all the time. On the way, we will witness the sudden changes in the landscape as we go up: the lush green forest being replaced by bushes and, finally, by lichen. At this level we reach an amazing view of the whole valley and the Calbuco volcano. We will eat our snack on the trail and maybe we have the possibility to watch a Magellan woodpecker because it has been seen a few times in the area. Later we will return to the port.
